Legal Citations and References

- Are for informational purposes only
- Do not constitute legal interpretation or application to your specific case
- Should be reviewed by qualified legal professionals
- May not be current or applicable to your situation
No Guarantee of Claim Approval
Using StoryLine VA does not guarantee your VA claim will be approved. The VA makes all decisions regarding disability claims based on:
- Medical evidence
- Service records
- Applicable laws and regulations
- Individual case circumstances
The quality of a personal statement is only one factor in the VA's decision-making process. Even a well-written statement cannot overcome lack of medical evidence, insufficient service connection, or other claim deficiencies.
Your Responsibility
You are solely responsible for reviewing, verifying, and deciding whether to use any documents generated by this Service. We strongly recommend having qualified professionals review all documents before submission to the VA.
AI-Generated Content and Accuracy
AI Technology Limitations
StoryLine VA uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to generate content. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated content:
- May contain errors, inaccuracies, or incomplete information
- Should not be assumed to be factually correct without verification
- May not reflect the most current laws, regulations, or medical research
- Requires human review and judgment before use
- Cannot replace human expertise or professional judgment
Your Responsibility to Review
You must:
- Carefully review all generated content for accuracy
- Verify that information accurately reflects your situation
- Correct any errors or inaccuracies before using documents
- Ensure all statements are truthful and accurate
- Not submit false or misleading information to the VA
Warning: Submitting false or misleading information to the VA may be a federal crime. You are responsible for ensuring all information in your claim is truthful and accurate.
Privacy and Data Handling
While we do not store your personal statements or medical information after processing:
- You should not include personally identifiable information (PII) beyond what is necessary
- You should review our Privacy Policy for details on data handling
- You are responsible for the security of downloaded documents
- You should not share documents containing sensitive information unnecessarily
Medical Records Upload & Protected Health Information (PHI)
StoryLine VA offers an optional feature to upload medical records for AI-assisted document generation. By using this feature, you acknowledge the following:
Client-Side Processing
Your medical record files (PDFs, images) are processed entirely within your web browser using open-source libraries. Original files are never transmitted to, stored on, or accessible by our servers. Text extraction and PII scrubbing occur on your device before any data is sent.
Automated PII Removal
We automatically detect and remove common PII patterns (Social Security Numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses) from extracted text before transmission. However, we cannot guarantee complete removal of all sensitive information. You are responsible for reviewing the extracted text preview and ensuring you are comfortable with what will be sent.
Transient Data Processing
Extracted text from your medical records is sent to our AI service provider (Anthropic) for document generation. This data is:
- Processed in-memory only — never written to databases or file storage
- Not stored in server logs (only character count is logged)
- Not used by Anthropic for AI model training (per their API data policy)
- Discarded immediately after document generation completes
Not a Health Information Exchange
StoryLine VA is not a HIPAA-covered entity, health information exchange, or medical records management system. We do not maintain, store, or manage your medical records. The upload feature is a convenience tool that processes files transiently for document generation purposes only.
Your Responsibility
You are responsible for:
- Reviewing all extracted text before consenting to transmission
- Understanding that AI may misinterpret information from your records
- Verifying all AI-generated content for accuracy before use
- Securing your downloaded documents and original medical records
DBQ & C&P Exam Preparation Guides
DBQ Preparation Guides and C&P Exam Preparation Guides are educational resources that explain the VA's publicly available evaluation criteria. They are NOT symptom coaching tools.
These guides:
- Explain evaluation criteria from 38 CFR Part 4 (Schedule for Rating Disabilities) — this is publicly available regulatory information
- Describe what specific DBQ forms assess and what examiners will measure
- Help veterans understand rating levels and what each requires
- Encourage truthfulness and accuracy in all VA examinations
These guides do NOT:
- Tell veterans what to say to achieve a specific rating
- Encourage exaggeration or misrepresentation of symptoms
- Constitute medical advice or disability evaluation
- Guarantee any specific rating or claim outcome
- Replace consultation with a VSO, attorney, or medical professional
Veterans are encouraged to be completely honest during all VA examinations. C&P examiners are independent medical professionals who form their own opinions regardless of preparation materials. Misrepresentation of symptoms is a federal offense.
Third-Party Resources and Links
The Service may reference or link to third-party resources, including:
- Medical studies and research papers
- Legal databases and CFR citations
- VA websites and resources
- VSO and legal service websites
We do not control and are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or content of third-party resources. References to such resources do not constitute endorsement.
